The Full Story

In 2024, Jess created Rawlings Upholstery, a business born from a journey of personal transformation and creative ambition. After overcoming cancer, Jess sought a career that offered both creativity and a balanced life, leading her to retrain in furniture making. This experience gave her a renewed perspective on life and a deeper motivation to follow her passions. After re-training, Jess spent a couple of years working alongside skilled furniture makers, mastering traditional techniques such as French Polishing and working on both solo and team projects. Eager to expand her expertise, she began training in upholstery through the AMUSF (Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishings) diploma program and is currently accredited to Stage 2, with plans to complete Stage 3 to gain full accreditation soon.

With experience gained through training and employment, Jess took the leap to set up her own business, establishing a dedicated workspace where she could fully embrace her creativity and expertise. Upholstery has proven to be the perfect fit, blending her passion for furniture (especially mid-century pieces) with her woodworking and sewing skills, which she developed growing up around her mum’s textile work. Upholstery feels like the destination she was always meant to reach, and with a growing interest in classic car upholstery, she has expanded her skill set to include these intricate projects as well. Guided by integrity, attention to detail, and precision, Jess’s work brings new life to furniture and interiors, whether through restoring a cherished piece, reviving a classic car’s interior, or creating something entirely new.
